Ben Layne - Senior Consultant
For years Ben has been a go-to-source for many businesses corporations that want to develop a winning strategic position in their industry, and then execute a successful marketing campaign. Though he never intended to go into business, he couldn’t help it: he is a serial entrepreneur. In kindergarten he made .25 cents to shine shoes. In grade school, he didn’t just mow lawns: he mowed thousands of acres high grasses – a place in the industry that other 11 and 12 year olds simply couldn’t compete. In high school and college he started his own a capella band and earned the meager income of a musician. However, as Ben mentored students across academic disciplines, he realized that business was the last profession he would want to pursue. Business marketing, papers, and general communications were drab and lifeless. He wondered how business could survive with “empty fluff” for messages without truly persuasive, purposeful messages. He wondered, “Why couldn’t business use original, creative ways to persuade and convince people to buy?”
He studied the roots of rhetoric or the art of persuasion from the masters: Aristotle, Cicero, Shakespeare, and even some founders like Thomas Jefferson – all noteworthy in the art of persuasion. However, as he studied the art of persuasive writing, he still had the same entrepreneurial drive. He co-founded and headed up marketing for three businesses. Two had some success, but split up as partners left to pursue careers. The third began as a small course he and some associates developed in their spare time in college, and they were able to turn it into a profitable business, and realize substantial growth over the first five years. In addition to growing and developing his own company, Ben joined NTT / Verio as their Senior Copywriter over the reseller division responsible for marketing and managing accounts in excess of 2 million MRR. After September 11th, 2001 He accepted a position at the J. Reuben Clark Law School where he served as assistant to Associate Dean and Library Director Constance Lundberg, assisted with advanced legal research, and served on the administrative board. Ben continued to develop his own strategies and to grow his business, while teaching LSAT, GMAT, GRE, and other standardized exam preparation to prospective graduate students.
In Feb 2005 Ben accepted an offer to move to Dallas / Fort Worth and become a consultant for Monopolize Your Marketplace. Since 1995 Ben has worked with thousands of businesses in a broad range of industries: from tech-savvy international corporations, national banks, financial institutions and investment firms, medical professionals and businesses, transportation, media, athletic teams, fund raising campaigns, high level joint venture negotiations, education, construction, manufacturing, logistics, PR and communications, and ranging from startups to established businesses, he’s focused, reshaped messages for hundreds of businesses across the globe.
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, executive, and owner, and your strategy calls for B2B or B2C, Ben’s experience and ability to craft a compelling message to help clients reach an unprecedented level of success. Apart from crafting persuasive marketing strategies, Ben enjoys challenging businesses to push themselves to the limit. “The greatest obstacle for many businesses is identifying a personal identity. Once we know who we are, and what we do, then the message follows. Then, it’s up to us to craft that message into a truly jaw-dropping campaign.” |
